It's common for people to invest in their image, and they allocate a significant portion of their income to this end: hairstyling, creams, treatments, clothing, etc. And there's nothing wrong with this; on the contrary, in my opinion, it's fair and necessary. We work hard, we live on the run, and if we're fortunate enough to have the ability to invest in certain luxuries, we're part of a lucky minority. However, in that long list of expenses, investing in a good bed isn't exactly a priority for most. And when we deeply understand the importance of rest, that's where this experience we live every night for six, seven, or eight hours should gain value. In the end, it's an asset that depreciates over time and with use, but like a car, it doesn't require constant replacements or purchases. It's as simple as making an initial investment in: a good mattress, good pillows, three sets of sheets that include a duvet cover, and a duvet cover.
The mattress: a key element of rest, and today's technological advances are part of the mattress offering. Some have smart fabrics and foams, while others have internal circuits that allow you to adjust the firmness and temperature via an app. In Colombia, we know an international brand that uses components developed by NASA. These mattresses have a durability of up to 20 years, according to the manufacturer. While quality conventional mattresses have a 7-year warranty.
The lifespan of sheets is measured by the number of washes. A good product has a durability promise of 120 washes. If we calculate how long those three sets of sheets would last, rotating them every 20 days and ensuring the use of all three sets. In one year, each set would be washed 15 times, and after 8 years, their useful life would be reached. And, in reality, in many homes, they last much longer than that. I clarify, taking into account the washing recommendations.
Many pillow manufacturers, for example, suggest changing them every six months. However, in reality, this may not be necessary. They can even last much longer if you have a good pillow, a good protector, and covers that are changed frequently. It's a personal decision that will depend on the pillow's appearance and functionality. When the product no longer meets any of these or more characteristics, the user will decide whether to replace it.
And so we could go on and on about each of the elements that make up a comfortable bed, even delving into the characteristics of each and their benefits. But in this specific case, we reflect on something that should be very important not only because of the years we use our bed and everything that goes into it, but also because of the use we give it: resting, sleeping, relaxing, etc., something key to human health. This is why investing in a comfortable bed will never be an expense, like buying anything to keep in the closet and use from time to time, be it shoes, clothes, or whatever; NO, it's truly an investment in health and well-being for the mind and body.
